Photoshoot

Our photoshoot went really really well, we all came prepared with images of poses and lighting to show to Dave, and he was able to show us these techniques. The models delivered exactly what we wanted, and we're all really happy with the results of today's shoot.

It has taken a more 'edgy' route than we had planned, but we were glad about this direction.

I have posted 25 of which I think are the best, onto the blog...

Our next step is to select which images we think we should use, and edit if them if necessary.

Photoshoot Inspiration

If we take an edgier route with our photoshoot, as it takes inspiration from The Sex Pistols, Punk and Anarchy, then it will be aimed towards publications such as i-D and Dazed and Confused magazines. 

I have researched a little to see if these magazines have done something similar to our photoshoot, to gather inspiration for poses, hair and make up, etc.

( I really like the make up, hair style and facial pose of this model)

(This is done by an artist called Danny Roberts - here are a couple of pictures by him, which I think would also be inspirational)

 

(I like that the crown is tilted, we could use a similar expression in some of our shots)

 

 

I think something like this would be amazing, it could also be featured in Vogue or Elle, because it isn't as edgy/artistic as the above images, but more glamorous.

Photoshoot ideas

I have been thinking of how we can re-create an image, I have found this picture of the Queen of Hearts (from Alice in Wonderland) we could pose our model like this, to re-create an image of The Queen posing for a portrait:

 

Or, we could use a coin or postage stamp 

 

and pose the model like this:

Maybe, we could do something futuristic - when Charles is King... we could put his face on a bank note wearing the crown etc. Something like this would be easy to re-create with our model, then we could enlarge the ears and exaggerate the teeth on Photoshop!

The Queen's Style

I have researched into The Queen's style so that when we are styling our model(s), we have a good knowledge of hair, make-up, clothing, accessories, props, etc.

Formal Attire

At formal Royal events, The Queen is (obviously) immaculately dressed, wearing A LOT of jewels (always a crown or tiara) and silk gloves. Her clothing isn't darish, usually pale colours - creams and whites, and always tasteful and respectful. The Queen appears to wear little make-up - lipstick and blusher.

Casually Formal

At slightly less formal events, The Queen will experiement with colour and fashion, stylish hats and accessories, wears jewellery - but obviously less grand - pearls, brooch, small ear rings.

I find it hard to believe that these photographs, are in fact The Queen. She is dressed as any little old lady would be (although I'm sure the clothes are still highly expensive). In casual "off-duty" times, The Queen adopts a typical English Countryside style - Barbour jackets, headscarves, loafers, cardigans and tartan print skirts.

I think watching this film "The Queen" would be really beneficial to our group, as it will give us knowledge about the Queen's lifestyle, personality, style and mannerisms.

Iconic Images Research - Music & Fashion.

To begin researching Iconic Images, I have decided to look within the Music Industry. The term "Pop Icon" is relevent; "A pop icon is a celebrity, character, or object whose fame in pop culture constitutes a defining characteristic of a given society or era."

Here are some iconic images I have found:

Ziggy Stardust

David Bowie, in the words of biographer David Buckley, "challenged the core belief of the rock music of its day" and "created perhaps the biggest cult in popular culture". Dressed in a striking costume, his hair dyed red, Bowie launched his Ziggy Stardust stage show. Bowie's love of acting led his total immersion in the characters he created for his music. "Offstage I'm a robot. Onstage I achieve emotion. It's probably why I prefer dressing up as Ziggy to being David."

 John Lennon

The Smiths

Salford Lads Club

The club gained fame in 1986 when the alternative rock band The Smiths posed in front of the building for the inside cover of their album The Queen Is Dead. Stephen Wright was accepted into the National Portrain Gallery in 2008. The Smiths music video for the song "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This Before" also featured shots of the building's exterior. The club is on the corner of St Ignatius Way and Coronation Street in Salford and is a place of pilgrimage for many Smiths fans.

Blur
