Appropriation images
After looking at the traditional and modern varietys of icons and iconic imagery, ive decided to look at a more historical angle to the project.
Im interested in looking at images of greek gods and the influences that can be taken from them.
I have chosen Aphrodite who is the goddess of love and beauty. Hades the god of the underworld and death. Poseidon the god of the sea and Athena the god of the arts and wisdom.
I felt choosing Greek gods was appropriate to the traditional side of the meanins of 'Icon' but also something that has influenced many other Appropriation images.
The greek gods are widely documented and each are individual and hold specific qualities, they are also widely described giving details on apperance and clothing, favourite colours and symbols such as doves and scales. These peices of information give a great background for thinking forward towards further deovelopment.
